Wool faux fur can begin as a jersey construction with loops on one side. Cutting those loops exposes yarn that can be raised and brushed, producing a pile resembling fur or shearling while keeping the textile grounded in a knitted structure.

Woolmark also identifies inlay, terry, plush and sliver-knitting routes for wool pile fabrics. Differences in pile height and the side carrying the pile help distinguish fleece-like and sherpa effects, giving manufacturers several construction options for apparel, accessories and interior textiles.
