Hong Kong label i-am-chen explored a floating flat-knit construction for the International Woolmark Prize. Superfine Merino wool yarn was arranged over a monofilament so that wool appeared to float across the surface, producing a shirt reported to weigh 60 grams.

Floating Wool Yarn Creates an Exceptionally Light Knit

The same finalist showcase included other structural experiments, from needle-punching new wool into worn knitwear to a jacquard wool-fur coat. The floating construction is a particularly clear example of changing yarn placement to alter both fabric appearance and the weight of the finished garment.
