Cool Wool challenges the assumption that wool cloth must be heavy winter material. Woolmark describes the woven specification using a maximum fabric weight of 190 grams per square metre and a maximum mean fibre diameter of 22.5 microns. Those two measurements describe different aspects of the textile: weight and fibre fineness.

When identifying a lightweight wool cloth, read both rather than treating a soft touch as proof of a low fabric weight. The specification supports the use of Merino in warmer climates and transitional seasons while keeping the material firmly within the wool family.
