Seamless knitting allows patterns, colours and stitch structures to be combined within one piece of fabric. Woolmark describes engineered areas for functions such as compression and breathability, along with body-contouring patterns. The construction can reduce seams and textile waste compared with some conventional assembly methods.

When identifying such a garment, a change in texture does not necessarily mean separate fabric panels were sewn together. It may be built into the knitting programme. The actual item still needs examination because seamless technology describes a production approach, while the final garment design determines any remaining assembly.
