Lenzing completed conversion of a Nanjing production line from generic viscose to TENCEL modal, announcing local supply for Chinese textile customers in 2023. The line's stated nameplate capacity was 35,000 tonnes per year. The change expanded the site's specialty-fibre focus without requiring the story to begin with an entirely new factory.

The announcement linked the conversion with broader energy and emissions investment at the site. For textile supply chains, it shows how manufacturing location and product mix can change alongside fibre technology. Modal remains regenerated cellulose even when its regional source changes.
