Silk Fabric Characteristics
Silk is a fiber, while many familiar silk names describe the fabric made from it. A glossy surface, a sheer layer, and a crisp textured cloth can therefore belong to the same broad fiber family. Some of those textile constructions also use synthetic materials, making the actual composition essential to the comparison.
A lightweight plain weave
Organza is a transparent fabric made with a light plain-weave structure. Silk was its traditional material, but the source also describes polyester and nylon versions. It is often used over other fabrics because its transparency allows the underlying layer to remain visible while contributing a distinct surface and outline.

Delicacy matters in use
The source emphasizes organza's delicate nature and discusses careful cleaning rather than treating it like ordinary heavy cloth. Its lightweight construction does not make it interchangeable with every other sheer textile. Fiber content and the firmness of the finished fabric should be considered together, particularly when comparing overlays or garments whose shape depends on a crisp rather than a flowing appearance.
